How does it work?
1. A group of neighbors agree to join in a collective, energy-use-reducing project.
2. Each member begins by determining their carbon footprint. This is a simple assessment based on household energy bills, type of car owned, miles driven, and air travel that describes how many tons of CO² each household is responsible for emitting per year.
3. Neighbors come together for a simple meeting or potluck and results of each carbon footprint test are added to establish a collective score. Each household commits to taking at least one energy-saving step in the next month.
4. Follow-up gatherings are held once a month. Ideas are shared for ways to reduce energy use, such as ride sharing for market trips once a week. Every 3 months members take the carbon footprint test again and the lowering scores are recorded. At the end of one year your neighborhood’s collective score will be significantly lower and so will your energy bills! It’s a fun way to get together with your neighbors, grow community, and reduce energy use at a vital time.
